38th Annual Central Agency Fair - 2024 Parade Highlights
The 38th Annual Central Agency Fair Parade in Chinle, Arizona, was a day to remember! On Saturday, August 17th, we celebrated life under the theme "Íiná Ba’ Hózhó." The streets were alive with the roar of dozens of bikers, the friendly greetings of rez dogs, and the wake-up call of sirens from the Navajo Nation Police. The fire department added to the fun, waving to the crowd before giving everyone a cool spray from their hose!
Our brave Navajo veterans proudly rode in several floats, handing out candy, Cokes, and fruit. Grand Marshal Crystalyne Curley’s unique float was a highlight, as she gifted fruit and 25th Navajo Nation Council tote bags. The Navajo Nation Marching Band filled the air with music, and we were thrilled to see former Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez with his family.
Council Delegates Curtis Yanito, Andy Nez, Eugenia Charles-Newton and Shawna Ann Claw joined in the festivities, tossing treats and sharing speeches. Delegate Helena Nez Begay greeted everyone with a cheerful "Ya'at'eeh!" Delegate Vince James even tossed some candy to a worker at Yazzie's Tire Repair—big thanks to them for fixing our tire on the way out of Chinle!
The Chinle Wildcats JROTC marched proudly alongside army recruits showing off their pushup skills. The Office of the President and Vice President had an impressive float, and Vice President Richelle Montoya dazzled in a bright and beautiful outfit. President Buu Nygren made sure to greet as many people as possible, hopping back and forth across the street to high-five, pose for photos, and sign autographs. Navajo Nation Royalty was also out in full force, spreading great energy all around!
We saw creative floats galore—a hogan, a massive book collection, a rainbow and tree made of balloons, a boxing ring, and performances from multiple singers and bands. NTU even had a student launching t-shirts from a cannon.
A huge thanks to everyone who came out and made this year’s fair unforgettable. See you next year!
